Join Our Team
We are seeking an accomplished and collaborative Bioinformatics Scientist to join our Research Team! You will directly contribute and provide thought leadership on a diverse range of bioinformatics and statistical genetics code bases. You will also implement state-of-the-art methods and workflows to analyze genetic data at an unprecedented scale (millions of samples and thousands of phenotypes).
What You’ll Do
- Architecture, design, and implementation of novel workflows to perform statistical genetic analyses in distributed computation environments
- Develop cutting-edge methodology when third-party options are not available
- Follow genetics/bioinformatics literature and attend appropriate conferences to maintain awareness of desirable and state-of-the-art methods for processing bioinformatic data
What You’ll Bring
- Ph.D. in Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or similar quantitative field
- 5+ years of post-PhD work experience in bioinformatics required (industry work experience a strong plus!)
- Knowledge of core statistical genetics algorithms such as phasing, imputation, linkage disequilibrium, GWAS, and PRS
- Fluency in Linux, bash, R, and Python
- Experience with distributed computation (e.g. AWS/UGE/SLURM)
- Expert knowledge in at least one workflow language such as Nextflow, Snakemake, or WDL
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Collaborative personality with strong interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively in a cross-functional, team environment
- Ability to work 3 days onsite (Tuesday-Thursday) in our Sunnyvale, CA office
Strongly Preferred
- Nextflow, C++, Docker, AWS Batch / Kubernetes
- Expertise in bioinformatics tools such as Beagle, bcftools/htslib/samtools, DeepVariant, DNAnexus, GLnexus, Minimac4, Plink, Shapeit5, SuSiE
- Familiarity with the analysis of short read DNA sequencing (WES/WGS) including alignment, variant calling, QC, and joint calling
