The Biological & Chemical Technologies Group addresses the most impactful and challenging current and emerging national security challenges using advanced biological and chemical technologies for sponsors across the United States government. Capabilities within the Group include analytical chemistry; organic chemistry; molecular, cellular, and synthetic biology; microbiome engineering; rapid DNA sequencing; bioinformatics; mass spectrometry; laser spectroscopy; microfluidics; and rapid prototyping. These capabilities are applied to missions spanning chemical, biological, and explosives (CBE) detection and attribution; medical diagnostics and countermeasures; pathogen identification; point-of-care diagnostics; molecular intelligence; biosecurity; and DNA forensics.
Job Description
The Biological & Chemical Technologies Group works on a wide range of topics. Candidate will be part of a team of researchers, working on projects such as building and testing novel biosensors, developing rapid diagnostics, building and characterizing in vitro cell culture systems, and novel protein-protein binding interactions. A significant fraction of the candidate’s time will be spent in the laboratory performing biological research as part of a larger research team. The candidate will work closely with experts in synthetic biology, molecular biology, bioinformatics, rapid prototyping, and microfluidics.
Requirements:
Pursuing a Bachelor’s in biology, biochemistry, or related field is required. Experience with one or more bench biology skill set (molecular biology, cell culture, microbiology) strongly preferred. Demonstrated excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and graphical) are highly desired.
Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
