The GBC is looking for a molecular biology intern. This internship is part of IEFP’s Activar programme.

Applicants must be eligible for this programme.

The selected candidate is expected to learn about and participate in the development and execution of the GBC’s tailored molecular services focused on applications in environment and industries. The intern will report to the Chief Molecular Scientist.

The successful candidate will learn and work on:

• Processing different sample matrices for nucleic acids analysis: Soil, water, plants, oils, feces, insects and other tissues.
• Execute a variety of DNA-based techniques including DNA quantification, PCR and qPCR, electrophoresis, NGS and various other assays as needed.
• Work with the molecular biology team to maintain laboratory and experimental records up to date.
• Participate in general housekeeping of the laboratory as required to ensure that the high-quality standards are met.
• Constantly communicate with the team lead, and other team members to receive guidance and instructions and to report any issues and resources needed.

• Eligibility for IEFP’s Activar internship
• MSc in molecular biology, molecular ecology, biotechnology, biochemistry, genetics or similar
• Enthusiasm to work in the projects focused on environmental problems
• Experience in execution of molecular pipelines preferred: DNA/RNA extraction, PCR, qPCR, electrophoresis, etc.)
• Excellent organization skills and sense of responsibility
• Good team player, strong execution, and flexibility to handle changes
• Strong and clear written and oral communication
• Proficient in working with Microsoft Office programs
• Fluent in English – speaking and writing
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment while consistently maintaining a positive and professional attitude
• Willingness to learn and to deliver
