Job role – Research Technician II
Location – Boston Medical Center (BMC)
Position Summary
Under the direction of the Principal Investigator/Department Director, the Research Technician II will perform laboratory procedures using approved procedures or special instructions. Responsibilities include sorting, cataloging, and maintaining a specimen repository, analyzing data using statistical analysis software, and coordinating and implementing subject recruitment, enrollment, sample collection, and study conduct. The Research Technician II will also assist in the maintenance of laboratory equipment and supplies.
Essential Responsibilities / Duties – Research Jobs for Biological Science
- Coordinate and implement subject recruitment, enrollment, follow-up, data collection, and study conduct
- Assist in the development of the REDCap database
- Identify and screen research subjects
- Recruit and maintain follow-up of research subjects by explaining and acquiring signatures of subjects for informed consent documents
- Track absent (lost to follow-up) subjects
- Perform data collection and database entry
- Participate in study meetings and perform other administrative tasks in support of clinical studies
- Collect and process biospecimens, including phlebotomy and specimen processing
- Prepare and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment
- Maintain inventory of reagents, chemicals, and supplies
- Assist in the orientation and teaching of new trainees and technicians
- Prepare and submit written reports of scientific findings
- Adhere to established department policies, procedures, and objectives
Education
Bachelor’s degree required; degree in a biological/physical science preferred. Master’s degree is a plus.
Experience
Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in research or clinical program activities required.
Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
- Experience with recruiting subjects and understanding the ethical and technical conduct of research.
