Postdoctoral Research Associate in Soil and Plant Health
The Department of Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral researcher with expertise in soil and plant health. The main goal of this position is to understand the agronomic and ecological responses of soil health-building practices by leveraging the long-term field experiments in Tennessee. The selected candidate is expected to manage existing field experiments and also establish new field experiments to investigate the ecosystem services from climate-smart practices.
Qualifications and Responsibilities
By the time of hire, the successful candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Soil Science, Crop Science, Agronomy, Agroecology, Environmental Science, or a closely related field with a specialization in carbon and nutrient cycling. A thorough understanding of plant physiology and plant diseases is a plus. Applicants should possess excellent academic and research performance records and strong oral and written communication skills. Preference will be given to applicants with prior experience in one or more of the following: establishing agricultural field trials, designing and conducting experiments on carbon and nitrogen mineralization, troubleshooting analytical instruments including CN analyzers and Gas Chromatographs, and strong statistical analytical skills. A demonstrated record of high-quality publications and grantsmanship are also very important criteria for selection. The position is based in Knoxville, TN but requires frequent travel to the experimental sites across Tennessee.
