Join Biomechanics and Signalling Team at Imperial College London – PhD Research Assistant Jobs
Job role – Research Assistant
Location:Â South Kensington Campus – Hybrid
Job Summary:Â The Biomechanics and Signalling led by Dr Julien Vermot at the Department of Bioengineering, Imperial College London, invites applications for a Research Assistant, funded for 6 months. Our research focuses on understanding the principles of mechanotransduction active in the cardiovascular system using advanced imaging techniques. We specialize in gentle imaging of fast biological processes in the zebrafish to investigate normal and pathological mechanisms, particularly related to the function and morphogenesis of the cardiac valve. By combining expertise in biology, physics, microscopy, and informatics, we develop optical imaging, manipulation, and image analysis tools to gain insights into how mechanical stimuli shape the cardiovascular system. This research aims to build cardiac structures from scratch and improve the regenerative capabilities of our cardiovascular system. Join us and contribute to cutting-edge research in this exciting field!
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Improve current designs for force reporters and organelle labelling
- Supervise MEng/MSc students and support the supervision of PhD candidates
- Opportunities for teaching roles, including lecturing, as part of career development
Essential Requirements:
- Near completion of PhD in an area pertinent to the research subject (e.g. Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Genetics, or similar)
- Previous experience in live imaging
- Excellent verbal communication skills and ability to work with interdisciplinary teams
