NEOGEN is looking for a Research Scientist II to be responsible for R&D testing with thin film components, adhesives, and new product development primarily supporting the Petrifilm portfolio. This person will conduct experiments, collect data and work closely with R&D, manufacturing, and product engineering team members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conduct mixing, coating, and plating experiments to support R&D for thin film development
- Provide support for test method documentation for new product development
- Support new product development while also working on process development improvements with cross-functional teams in R&D and the manufacturing plants
- Provide leadership working with a small focused team of technicians for benchwork execution and experimental formulation optimization
- Propagate and maintain relevant BSL1 and BSL2 culture panels for testing
- Use analytical tools such as statistical process controls, trending, and graphs to evaluate process capability and drive existing product and new product improvements
- General laboratory upkeep, housekeeping, ordering, and laboratory functional support for GLP compliance
- Other duties as may be assigned by management

Education and Experience:
- BS degree and a minimum of 2 years of related industry experience; or an advanced degree with 0-2 years industry experience
- Experience with microbiology or molecular biology
- Experience with mixing, coating, and analysis related to thin films
- Experience with BSL1 and BSL2 propagation and aseptic technique
- Strong communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage deadlines while maintaining a high degree of accuracy and precision
