Position Description: | The Tootle lab is looking for a Laboratory Research Intern to assist with studies focused on uncovering the roles of nuclear actin during development. The duties for this Laboratory Research Internship position include basic genetic, molecular, and cell biology protocols involving Drosophila genetic manipulation, recombinant DNA and cloning, and Western blotting. This research project will also involve immunofluorescence on tissue samples and confocal microscopy. Candidates will also be asked to assist in experiments generating transgenic Drosophila lines. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal communication skills and will receive relevant on-site training but will be expected to work independently. Other duties include lab maintenance, cleaning and organization.
This Post-Baccalaureate Research Internship is designed for individuals who are seeking training, experience, and mentoring in a research setting and who plan to pursue a graduate or degree in science. Education Requirement: | Bachelor’s of Science degree in Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry or similar is required |
Required Qualifications: | Laboratory and coursework experience in molecular or cell biology and basic laboratory techniques. Strong interpersonal skills along with a strong work ethic are required. Excellent written and verbal skills are also required. |
Desirable Qualifications: | previous independent research experience using Drosophila as a model system. |
