Job role – Scientist – Research & Product Development
Responsibilities and Expectations:
1. Grow the Top and Bottom line
- Support execution of product line strategies by providing technical input and carrying out product development initiatives.
- Build, reinvent, and drive product/process designs that increase performance and cost attributes.
- Understand customer and market performance requirements and manufacturing processes to enable targeted product enhancements.
- Contribute to protecting and maximizing intellectual property for future revenue.
- Manage and respond to customer technical issues and questions related to product lines.
- Maintain accurate records of development efforts.
- Support outside trials and development initiatives as defined by Director of R&D.
2. Optimize our cost structure
- Support the R&D and business development team’s increased ROI goals by staying within budgeted spending limits on projects.
3. Safety, Quality & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure any new materials entering the lab have been approved by the EHS Manager.
- Strive to improve quality and product reliability through design.

Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Physical Science, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering & Paper Science/Engineering. Advanced degree is preferred.
- Knowledge of Nonwovens product properties/processes and quality system documentation
- Knowledge of safe handling and storage of chemicals, binders, and fibers
- Knowledge of manufacturing and converting operations, product testing, laboratory equipment maintenance and calibrations
- Knowledge of nonwoven product performance, instrumentation, and testing equipment
- Knowledge of computer systems, software applications, and reporting requirements
- Knowledge of raw materials, personnel planning, and scheduling
- Knowledge of OSHA, ISO 9001, customer and internal requirements as they relate to product development efforts
