What You Will Do
The Bioscience Division is seeking a postmaster’s researcher with expertise in eukaryotic microbial platforms, such as microalgae and yeast, for the production of fuels, feed, and chemicals. This role involves collaborating with a diverse team to develop bio-based technologies aimed at creating sustainable aviation fuels and co-products from biomass derived from wastewater remediation processes.
Minimum Job Requirements
- Strong technical background in fermentation, microbiology, biomanufacturing, or molecular biology.
- Demonstrated experience in microbial biomanufacturing, focusing on yeast fermentation or large-scale algae cultivation.
- Ability to design, conduct, and troubleshoot experiments independently.
- Excellent writing and communication skills for multidisciplinary teamwork.
- Proven record of publications in peer-reviewed journals.
Education/Experience
Awarded a master’s degree in biology, microbiology, biotechnology, or a related STEM field within the past three years. Candidates should not have been accepted into another master’s or PhD program at the time of appointment. All degree requirements must be completed by the start of the appointment.
Desired Qualifications
- Prior experience in process development and scale-up.
- Knowledge of data analysis in biomanufacturing and chemical catalysis/bioconversion.
- Proficiency in molecular/synthetic biology methods and microbial characterization assays, as well as analytical methods for biomass characterization.
- Experience in analyzing complex microbial communities and their physiology.
Salary
Starting salary is $94,500 for new graduates. Competitive salaries are based on the date of completing the PhD degree requirements or the degree being awarded. For more information, visit the LANL Postdoc Program website.
